John Bruton served as Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland from 1994 to 1997, and as a minister in several previous governments (Finance: 81-82 and 86-87, Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism: 83-86). On his retirement from domestic politics, Bruton turned his attentions to Europe. A staunch supporter of European integration, he served as E.U. Ambassador to the U.S. from 2004 to 2009. He is currently Chairman of the Irish Financial Services Centre.
